EMMECC NURSING is promoted by a consortium coordinated by the University of Oviedo (Spain) and counting with the partnership of the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences of Helsinki (Finland), the University of Algarve and the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (Portugal). All have a track record of nurse training in tight collaboration with local hospitals –some of them also collaborating as Associated Partners in the Consortium- and have, therefore, jointly developed a clear picture of the real-life situation of their acute care units.

University of Oviedo

The University of Oviedo is one of the oldest ones in Spain, as has just celebrated its 400th anniversary. Today, the University of Oviedo is an institution which hosts more than 28,000 students. It enjoys enormous prestige due to its teaching and research activities in the fields of humanities, law, social sciences, experimental sciences, health sciences and technical education. In 2009 it was awarded with the Campus of International Excellence. Its teaching programmes include undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, University extension courses, summer courses and specific courses; it is therefore fully prepared for the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). UNIOVI will be the coordinating Institution of the EMMECC and shall organize the collaboration between Partners in compliance with the Proposal, acting as a link between the EACEA and the Partners and shall see to the effective preparation and presentation of the EMMECC proposal.

As the leading institution, responsibilities will include coordinating work and communication between consortium members, financial management and reporting, reporting on project evolution and other tasks, as detailed in the Consortium Agreement signed between the consortium partners. It will also ensure enforcement of the contract between EACEA and the Consortium, as detailed in the Framework and Specific Partnership Agreements.

Academically, UNIOVI will be responsible for two Advanced Clinical Practice modules in Adult & Geriatrics and Paediatrics, during semester 2. In semester 3 it will also participate with further specialization modules on Transplant and Oncologic Clinical Practices, as well as with thesis supervision.

University of Algarve

University of Algarve

The University of Algarve (UAlg) has taken part in numerous transnational projects (cooperation & research) within and outside EU, most notably LLP (Erasmus, Leonardo, Transversal), Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Atlantis, Alfa. For the past 3 years, UAlg participates in more than 60 research projects & 50 in Cooperation & Development in Higher Education. The International Office develops, promotes, coordinates most international affairs, articulating with internal/external services and managing all mobility programmes. UAlg provides info/advice on pre-arrival needs, arrival orientation and cultural integration. Students are integrated into classes within the regular curriculum and benefit from integrated access to student support facilities. Intern., inter-personal and inter-institutional networks, and cooperation projects with other universities are reflected in its teaching/research activities so as to foster innovation/update of learning contents, project incubation, curriculum development, research and training. The ESSUALG develops the 1st semester of the course in partnership with the IPS, in permanent coordination with UNIOVI. Academically, in the 1st semester ESSUALG will be responsible for Research Methodology, Paediatric Advanced Clinical Nursing, Nursing Management and Communication and Relationships in Nursing.

In semester 3 ESSUALG will also participate with further specialization modules on Nutritional Care and Respiratory Care, as well as with thesis supervision.

Polytechnic Institute of Santarém

The School develops its mission mobilizing the human potential it has, with a vision and values, supported in a strategic orientation, which aims at the cooperation with health, education and other organizations, in the pre-graduated, post-graduated and life long education, thorough investigation, consulting and activities extended to the community. Has and adequate response to all those who look for it. Access to higher education: Nursing Degree 1st cycle.

Access to post-graduated studies that do not confer a degree, and access to Master degree courses in Nursing (5 courses functioning). Since November 2008, and the homologation of its Statutes on 1st July 2009, the School assumes its transition to a mission where it projects the reinforcement of the educational offer with the scientific area of nursing and health, in a multidisciplinary approach. The development of different processes concerned with the School's mission has been supported since 31st December 2009. The School promotes the 1st semester of the degree, constantly developing the articulation with UNIOVI as coordinator institution.

The qualification of professors in association with the EMMECC NURSING, as well as the experience gathered from the development of master degrees within the nature presented here, come out as conditions that guarantee the success we aim to achieve. In the 1st semester, it is in charge of teaching clinical nursing subjects and the specialization of Adult/Elder, offering specialization on cardiology and preoperative care in the third semester, as well as thesis supervision.

Metropolia has twelve international degree programmes, student and teacher mobility, work placement opportunities abroad and various projects that play an essential role in the international activities at Metropolia. Over 800 international degree students who represent more than 70 different nationalities study at Metropolia every year. In addition to the international degree students, there are almost 350 exchange students from partner institutions of higher education from all over the world every year. Metropolia offers a three and half (3, 5) - four and half -year (4, 5) degree programmes of 210 - 270 ECTS in health care and social services. In the field of nursing the options are: Registered Nurse (210 ECTS), Registered Midwife (270 ECTS), Registered Public Health Nurse (240 ECTS). Students will number 16,000 and staff about 1,100.

Metropolia's competences include evidence-based practice in nursing, simulation in nursing studies and management and leadership in health care. Metropolia offers advanced learning centres to the EMMECC program. In addition, the EMMECC program enables true competence exchange between Metropolia and the other partners in the area of the best practices in emergency and critical care. Metropolia and Uniovi will jointly offer he Advanced Clinical Nursing Practice modules, aimed at specialisation in Geriatrics or Crisis Resource Management -both specialisations also offered as elective alternatives inthe second semester; tutored Master Thesis with practicum in further specialisation will also be offered during the third semester.

Faro Hospital

The Faro Hospital began operations on December 4, 1979. Today is the referral hospital of the eastern Algarve, serving a population of about 253 000 people, this value may double or triple seasonally. With a total area of 46,500 m2, it has 442 beds for adults, 50 paediatric ones and 40 cots for babies. The Central Hospital of Faro has a versatile ER encompassing the General Emergency, the Emergency Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Paediatric Emergency Department. The Internment is structured in clinical specialties. It also offers Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (in process for certified NIDCAP), Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Intensive Care Unit. Concerning the treatment of cardiovascular diseases the Hospital is equipped with a modern unit of Hemodynamics and Stroke Unit (AVC).

The Hospital of Faro (HF) and the ESSUALG have a long history of working in partnership to several levels, namely at the level of teaching, researching and service delivery. The HF will cooperate with EMMECC NURSING through the collaboration of professors, particularly the head nurse of the Cardiology Service and Coronary Intensive Care Unit and the head nurse of the Emergency General Service (among others), but also in the development of clinical practice and supervision of theses.

Universidade Federal de São Carlos

Universidade Federal de São Carlos

Universidade Federal de São Carlos: Founded in 1968, Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar), São Paulo-Brazil stands out by a high level of qualification of its professor team (98.92% are doctors or masters), developing teaching activities, research and extension in full time. The University consists of 32 academic departments divided into four centres: Biological and Health Sciences Centre (CCBS), where The Nursing Department is included, The Exact sciences and Technology Centre (CCET), The Human science and Education Centre(CECH) and The Agrarian Sciences Centre (CCA). Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) will participate in the project as an associated partner where its role will be to collaborate in teaching as established in the Master Programme Guide, offering Internships for Master students and participating in a Joint supervision of Masters' Theses.

Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias

Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (HUCA) is a 1300-bed University Hospital. It is the reference Hospital of the Principado de Asturias (one million people population). During 2012, HUCA will be relocated into new facilities with the latest advances in terms of health technology and educational resources. Numbers of emergency boxes and intensive care beds will significantly increase compared to the number HUCA has now. There will be four adult Intensive Care Units with 24 beds in each Unit, one 12-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and one 16-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Critically ill patients of any age are now admitted in the HUCA. Heart, lung, liver, kidney and bone marrow transplants are now a common activity in the HUCA. Paediatric and adult oncologic Units are well developed now in the HUCA. In the new HUCA all these Units will increase its activity. The new HUCA will have a specific area for educational purposes oriented towards University students.

HUCA is the Hospital of the University of Oviedo in charge of the nurse advanced clinical practicum. Emergency and Critical Care Units of HUCA have experience in specialization programs in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing since 1990. They have developed these programs, first in the field of adult care, then in the field of paediatric care and finally in the field of neonatal care. The practicum will be developed in the different Emergency and Intensive Care Units of the HUCA. The students will be able to apply the knowledge and skills learned through the Master under the supervision of specialized nurses who care for critically ill adult, paediatric and neonatal patients.

The Higher Health School of Santarem and Hospital of Santarem, have a bilateral agreement in several domains: Basic and Specialized Education; Research and Problems Study. We can develop clinical training in all of contexts:

Mahidol University

The Public Health Faculty focuses on organizing and conducting specific educational programs at all levels, conducting research and providing technical supports in this area to other organizations across Asia and the Pacific Region. It also strives to provide and enhance technical and health promotion services while preserving and applying national and local culture and wisdom.

Mahidol University will participate in the project as an associated partner where its role will be to collaborate in teaching as established in the Master Programme Guide, offering Internships for Master students and participating in a Joint supervision of Masters' Theses.
